“Big Red” was another incredible off-the-track Thoroughbred Boyd rode to the top of the sport, competing in their first CCI5*-L in 2016 where they finished 6th, making them top contenders for selection to the U.S. Eventing Team for the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games. Boyd made his second Olympic appearance with “Big Red” with the pair finishing 16th overall.

Flying Doctor “Doc” was Boyd’s first CCI5* horse and was purchased for $1,200 off the track and became the horse to jump-start Boyd’s eventing career. The pair finished multiple FEI events together and completed their first Adelaide CCI5*-L in 2000, finishing in 5th place before returning to complete the event again in 2001.

Remington XXV “Remi” was Boyd’s first warmblood and one of the first rides he took over once establishing his business in the U.S. The pair finished 12th in their first CCI5*-L in 2010 and were short listed for the U.S. Eventing Team for the FEI World Equestrian Games later that year. The pair went on to finish in 7th at Les Estoiles Pau CCI5*-L in 2010, before finishing in 7th at the Rolex Kentucky CCI5*-L in 2011. The pair finished 8th at the event in 2012, short listing them for the 2012 London Olympic Games.

Neville Bardos is one of Boyd’s most iconic mounts. Neville started his eventing career in 2002 with Silva before changing hands to Boyd. In 2007, Neville was imported to the U.S. by Boyd, who finished with great results in the Jersey Fresh CCI4*-L and Fair Hill CCI4*-L that fall. The pair tackled their first CCI5*-L at Kentucky in 2008, finishing 9th and were short listed for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. Neville won the Fair Hill CCI4*-L in 2009 and went on to finish 4th at the 2010 Kentucky CCI5*-L before being selected to the U.S. Eventing Team for the 2010 FEI World Equestrian Games in Lexington, Ky., where the pair were the highest-placed U.S. pair finishing in 10th.
Neville was one of the survivors of the horrendous barn fire that took the lives of six horses in Boyd’s barn in 2011, making an incredible recovery and returning to top sport to finish 7th at Badminton CCI5*-L just a few months after the fire.

Boyd took over the ride on Trading Aces “Oscar” in 2012, having high hopes for the future. The pair made their CCI5*-L debut in Kentucky in 2013, but retired on cross-country. Trading Aces wasn’t well-suited for long-format competitions and won several events with shorter tracks with Boyd in the irons. In 2014, Boyd gave the ride to Phillip Dutton ahead of the 2014 FEI World Equestrian Games, with Dutton piloting “Oscar” to an 8th place finish at the Rolex Kentucky CCI5*-L before their team selection to the U.S. Eventing Team for the championships.

The first CCI5*-L for Boyd and “Otis” proved to be one of their best outings together as a combination, finishing in 3rd place at the 2012 Rolex Kentucky CCI5*-L. Their finish set them up nicely for team selection to the 2012 London Olympic Games later that summer. The pair withdrew from the final phase in London after Otis pulled up sore, but gave Boyd his first Olympic experience. The pair went on to finish 15th at the Luhmühlen CCI5*-L in 2014.

Pancho Villa was Boyd’s 2015 Toronto Pan American Games mount, where the pair finished 4th individually and were part of the gold-medal winning team. The duo finished competitively in CCI3*/CCI4* competitions prior to their team selection for Toronto.

Boyd acquired Shamwari 4 as a potential championship mount after he finished well at the 2012 London Olympic Games for Sweden. The pair debuted at the Luhmuhlen CCI5*-L in Germany prior to the 2014 FEI World Equestrian Games, finishing 3rd. The pair were selected to the championship team later that summer, where they were the highest placed U.S. combination to finish the event in Normandy, France, taking 7th place overall. The pair returned to international competition in 2016, finishing 12th at the Rolex Kentucky CCI5*-L, his first major competition back since the WEG.

True Blue Toozac “Toozac” was Boyd’s first CCI5*-L winner, with the pair winning the 2003 Adelaide CCI5*-L. The pair finished the fastest cross-country round of the competition and the win cemented Boyd’s continued pursuit of top CCI5*-L finishes in his career.

Boyd’s first trip to the U.S. was to compete Ying Yang Yo at the 2006 Rolex Kentucky CCI5*-L, where the pair ultimately finished in 11th place. The pair flew over together on the cargo plane from Australia to JFK, with Boyd deciding to stay and start a business in the U.S.
