Pau, France – Boyd and Fedarman B finished out the 2023 CCI5* season with an eighth place finish on a final score of 42.7 at the Les Etoiles de Pau CCI5*-L, which turned out to be a challenging and influential competition. Pau marked Fedarman B’s second top-ten finish at a CCI5*-L in 2023, with high hopes for the future as he continues to improve and gain confidence at the level.
The pair earned a 31.7 in the dressage to sit in 16th overnight heading into cross-country, which was a score a bit lower than expected, with a few minor mistakes in the test that kept the duo out of the 20’s. Cross-country proved to be a monster track, with combinations struggling throughout. Boyd and Bruno, a 2010 KWPN gelding owned by the Annie Goodwin Syndicate, were held for a significant period of time on course, but powered through, notching the only ride inside the optimum time out of all 55 combinations. Unfortunately, the pair activated a MIM clip at the challenging combination at 13AB, adding 11 penalties to their score, placing them ninth overnight.
Bruno jogged up lovely on Sunday morning and was fresh and fit to finish the competition. Show jumping is one of Bruno’s best phases, and the pair delivered on Sunday, producing a double clear effort and securing their top-ten finish.
